Mark Hinde is from the United Kingdom originally but has lived overseas for most of his life. He first got into teaching as a way to support himself while traveling in Italy. He taught Business English in Rome, for three years before moving first to Barcelona in Spain, then to Sevilla, where he taught English to high school students. He moved to Japan in 1990, living in the Tokyo area for six years, and teaching a wide range of students from elementary school to adult learners.
After that, Mark taught in Singapore for six years, working at AT&T, the British Council and at the Singapore Airlines Training Centre. He then moved to Jakarta, where he spent three years at the British Council and was Teaching Centre Manager for two, thence to IALF in Bali, where he has been ever since, working as part of the English for Academic Purposes team.
Mark’s focus these days is in EAP, especially preparing students for exams. At IALF, he has also worked on projects, including the Lapis ELTIS teacher training program and the East Timor English Language Program.
Long ago, before turning to teaching, Mark studied Art History at the University of Bristol. Painting continues to be one of his interests, others being books, sports, films, and music.
