Staff Profile – Jamie Mcilroy

Jamie Mcilroy was born and raised in the trendy beachside town of Avalon, Sydney, Australia. He spent most of his childhood surfing and playing football in the local area. Jamie was a sports freak competing in both golf and surfing competitions and he still loves his sports, favouring golf and surfing, with Formula 1 and MotoGP a close second.

Having been bitten by the travel bug at an early age, Jamie first travelled to Bali, Lombok and Sumbawa back in 1984, and made the Indonesia archipelago his yearly escape haven for the next 25 years.  He also had the opportunity to travel abroad visiting the iconic landmarks of famous European countries. Jamie believes that having visited a multitude of different countries each with a diverse range of cultures and traditions has given him the knowledge to be the person he is today.

Jamie spent the first 15 years of his career as a practicing Arborist, Tree Surgeon and Landscape Design Consultant and surfing in between. “It was a dream working outdoors with trees, plants, gardens and being so close to nature,” he says. Jamie started his teaching career back in 2010 as an English language teacher in Bandung, mainly teaching global English to elementary, junior and high school students. As his teaching knowledge and methodology expanded, he progressed to teaching Academic and Business English to both private and corporate clients, IELTS and TOFEL preparation to university students and reaching his goal of becoming an accreditated international English language test examiner in 2018. He completed his CELTA in 2014, his TESOL post grad certificate in 2017 and is in the final stages of completing his MA in TESOL. Jamie’s passion and personal satisfaction derives from assisting students to reach and achieve their future goals.
