Henrietta Gorton (Henny) is originally from England but has been living and working as an English teacher in Indonesia for 7 years. Henny graduated from Falmouth University with a Music degree and worked as a Music Tutor and Teacher in Durham, England. Teaching has always been a passion of hers after spending time teaching Music and English in Kenya, Africa. There she saw the importance of education and how much it helped people from impoverished communities, providing them with essential skillsets and knowledge which enabled them to improve the quality of their lives. She also realised how much she loved helping people through education.
As part of her Music degree, Henny studied Gamelan where she discovered a great interest in world music; particularly Indonesian. She decided to combine her love for teaching and interest in Gamelan by moving to Indonesia to teach. She first started teaching English and Music in Surabaya, after gaining her TESOL teaching certificate in Sardinia, Italy.
Henny is very adventurous, active and a keen endurance athlete. You will find her most weekends either running in the mountains with her dogs, doing a long-distance ocean swim or cycling around Bali. A great passion of hers is running, where she competes regularly in Ultra Marathons across Indonesia. Her love of sports was the reason she moved to Bali from Surabaya.
