I Putu Arik Budiarsana (Budi) comes from Buleleng, north Bali. He graduated from Ganesha University of Education in 2013, majoring in English Education. In 2016, he got his Teacher Certification from the Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education after successfully completing a teacher training program called Pendidikan Profesi Guru (PPG). Even though teaching had been his dream since childhood, he never thought that he would teach English – a language which had always seemed very foreign to him.
His first teaching experience was in a small language centre in Singaraja when he was still in his third year of university. Right after he completed his bachelor’s degree, he travelled to East Nusa Tenggara to join a government program called SM-3T (Sarjana Mendidik di Daerah Terdepan, Terluar, dan Tertinggal), a short-term program to solve the lack of teachers in the rural regions of Indonesia. Budi was assigned to a vocational high school on Pantar Island in Alor Regency and helped out in the local schools. Teaching in a remote area where books were very limited and there was no electricity and internet was very challenging, but it taught him a lot about teaching with minimal resources during his short stint in NTT.
Budi began his career at IALF in 2018 and has been involved in a variety of programs since then. In addition to teaching General English and Young Learner classes, he has also had the opportunity to teach Specialized English Language classes within the programs of BOP (Biro Otonomi Papua), KPB (Kabupaten Pegunungan Bintang), Group Study Tours and 1-1 English Language Teaching.
Recently, Budi has been active teaching online for the General English –Z and Young Learner – Z programs. As much as he loves teaching in a traditional classroom, he has found teaching online very enjoyable and has been delivering really interesting lessons to his students.
