Placement Test

You will need to take the IALF Placement Test (PT) to enroll in the course. You can take the placement test on your phone, laptop or PC using Google Chrome or Firefox.

You will need to complete 50 multiple choice questions within 45 minutes. You will immediately see your PT results. The PT is free and can only be repeated after 2 months. Our team will contact you for payment details, within one-working day after you have registered for the course.

Technology

What you will need:

• A laptop or PC with webcam, microphone and good speakers (a headset with microphone attached is recommended).  It will be possible to join with a handphone, but this is not ideal as you need to see other participants and to read documents/powerpoints etc.
• The Zoom app downloaded onto your computer - you can download from here.
• A good internet connection
• A printer (if possible)
• A quiet space

The General English-Z program is designed for teens, adults and professionals and offers classes from Elementary to Intermediate Levels. These courses are designed to build your fluency and confidence for work, travel or academic study. All four skills of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing are covered, with a focus on real-life English communication skills.

You must be at SMA level or above (minimum 16 years old) to join the General English-Z online program, and need to sit a placement test to confirm your current level of English language ability. For younger students, we have a Young Learners program for SD and SMP students.

Students who enrol in the GE-Z program will follow through 4-stages of learning; Diamond, Emerald, Pearl and Ruby. Each stage will have different topics, language components and functions as well as tasks. Assessments are task-based and done continuously counting towards the final assessment at the end of each level. Each level consists of 16 lessons delivered through 8-weeks of Zoom classes with online coursework and assignments. Each lesson will be 2-hours long (1,5 hours of Zoom & 30 minutes of coursework). Students will meet twice a week for a total of 8 weeks.

Virtual classes will be delivered via Zoom, each lesson will be filled with various the in-class activities and tasks that are designed to improve your General English skills while enjoying good old interaction between the teacher and classmates. Online coursework uses Canvas LMS as your learning & resource hub outside of class hours.

If in any case, you are unable to join a lesson, you will be allowed to request a recording of that lesson.

This is a 'Blended Learning 75:25' program, combining video-conferencing online class meetings (total 3 hours per week) with online tasks and activities (total 1 hour per week). Courses run for 8 weeks, a total of 32 hours per level.

Online Classes (Face-to-Face):

• You will be in a virtual classroom Zoom
• The classes will take place depending on the schedule you choose
• The teacher and all the students will be able to see and hear each other
• The teacher and students will be able to share documents and presentations with others during the class
• In the class, the teacher will also be able to allocate pairs or small groups for discussions and tasks etc.

Online Tasks & Activities

You will be given access to the online IALF Canvas account (Canvas is a popular Learning Management System used throughout the world for online learning). Canvas is easy to use for:

• regular communications (with teachers and with other students)
• accessing all relevant materials for the online classroom, including any pre-reading etc.
• accessing a range of interesting tasks and activities to follow-up on each class
• doing a range of additional tasks and activities

The General English-Z program is taught by a combination of native speakers and Indonesian teachers of English.

All our teachers have either a degree in English language teaching, or a first degree and a recognised international teaching qualification such as the Trinity College London Certificate / Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. The General English-Z program is developed by IALF Bali, courses at IALF Bali are accredited by BAN (Badan Akreditasi Nasional).

The IELTS Foundation course aims to improve students English skills from Upper-Elementary levels to Pre-Intermediate while developing skills for the IELTS test such as: skimming & summarising text, writing descriptive and comparative essays, understanding & presenting data and so much more. Students will be introduced & challenged to a wide range of topics, themes and tasks commonly found in the IELTS Test.
