What you need to know about the IELTS Test
The International English Language Testing System or IELTS is the most popular internationally recognised English language test which measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work, where English is used as a language of communication. The IELTS test assesses all four language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking – in the context of real-life use of English. IELTS is now available in two test types: Paper-based and Computer-delivered IELTS.

The IELTS test offers two modules: the IELTS Academic module and the IELTS General Training module. The results are based on a 9-band scale. IELTS Computer-Based vs IELTS Paper Based
The IELTS Test now offers two types of testing methods; Computer and Paper based. Both methods offer the Academic & General Training modules. Here's what you need to know about both tests:
Paper-based IELTS
If you choose paper-based IELTS, you will answer the Listening, Reading and Writing tests on paper. The Speaking test is delivered face-to-face with an examiner.
Each skill is tested separately. You will take the Listening (30 minutes), Reading (60 minutes) and Writing (60 minutes) tests all on the same day one after the other, with no breaks in between. At IALF, we usually hold the Speaking test (11-14 minutes) on the same day as the other three tests. The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Paper-based IELTS results will be published 13 calendar days after the test date. Learn more on how to preview your results.

Computer-based IELTS
If you choose to take the Computer-based IELTS, you will take the Listening, Reading and Writing tests using a computer. The Speaking test is face-to-face with an examiner, as we believe it is the most effective way of assessing your speaking skills and prompts a more lifelike performance. Other aspects of the test, whether paper or computer are the all same.
Computer-based IELTS results will be published 3-7 calendar days after the test date (excluding public holidays). Learn more on how to preview your results.
