IALF welcomes the 2022 ELTA for People with Disabilities in Bali.

ELTA 2022 for People with Disabilities start at IALF Bali

Recently IALF Bali welcomed a group of 7 visually-impaired trainees from various regions in Indonesia for the 12-week ELTA (English Language Training Assistance) Bali Program. The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests from the Australian Consulate in Bali, Australia Awards Indonesia, and IALF Management.

The ELTA Bali program included an orientation week, that focused on developing the participants’ Individual Education Plans. The core training program that will conclude in April 2022, aims to improve the trainees’ 4 language skills (Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking) and provide test-taking strategies for the special needs of the IELTS test. In addition, ELTA will develop academic skills, including effective self-study techniques, and increase the trainees’ confidence to communicate in English in academic and social contexts. The ELTA trainees will be taught by 5 ELTA Trainers, assisted by the ELTA Coordinators from IALF.

Caroline Bentley, Program Manager of the ELTA programs, encouraged the new trainees to work hard and aim for a high target exit score to enable them to be eligible to apply for the many scholarship programs available. She gave examples of ELTA trainees who have benefitted from the ELTA program since it first started in 2011, with many ELTA alumni currently studying or already graduated from Master’s degree programs in Australia and other countries.

ELTA program

ELTA is an innovative program originally piloted by Australia Awards in Indonesia in Nusa Tenggara Timur in 2011. The program proved successful so that it was expanded to Nusa Tenggara Barat, Papua, Papua Barat, Maluku and Maluku Utara. In 2016 ELTA started to provide opportunities to prospective applicants with disabilities from all provinces in Indonesia.
