THE IELTS 9-BAND SCALE

Each band corresponds to a level of English competence. All parts of the test and the Overall Band Score can be reported in whole and half bands, eg 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0.

Band Descriptors

Band 9: Expert user:

has fully operational command of the language: appropriate, accurate and fluent with complete understanding.

Band 8: Very good user:

has fully operational command of the language with only occasional unsystematic inaccuracies and inappropriacies. Misunderstandings may occur in unfamiliar situations. Handles complex detailed argumentation well.

Band 7: Good user:

has operational command of the language, though with occasional inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings in some situations. Generally handles complex language well and understands detailed reasoning.

Band 6: Competent user:

has generally effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings. Can use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations.

Band 5: Modest user:

has partial command of the language, coping with overall meaning in most situations, though is likely to make many mistakes. Should be able to handle basic communication in own field.

Band 4: Limited user:

basic competence is limited to familiar situations. Has frequent problems in understanding and expression. Is not able to use complex language.

Band 3: Extremely limited user:

conveys and understands only general meaning in very familiar situations. Frequent breakdowns in communication occur.

Band 2: Intermittent user:

no real communication is possible except for the most basic information using isolated words or short formulae in familiar situations and to meet immediate needs. Has great difficulty understanding spoken and written English.

Band 1: Non-user:

essentially has no ability to use the language beyond possibly a few isolated words.

Band 0: Did not attempt the test:

no assessable information

Here are the most frequently asked questions about the IELTS Test.

TEST DAY INFORMATION

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) assesses all four language skills, through four test sections: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Each skill is tested separately. You will take the Listening (30 minutes), Reading (60 minutes) and Writing (60 minutes) tests all on the same day one after the other, with no breaks in between. The total test time is around 3 hours.

IELTS TEST RESULTS

For Computer-Delivered IELTS results are available online 3-5 business days after the test date*.

For Paper-based IELTS results are available online 13 business days after the test date*.

COLLECTING YOUR RESULTS

• You can then preview your IELTS test results online. Click here to preview your results.
• When your results are published you will receive an email notification from our IELTS admin team. Please check your inbox & spam folders.
• Test results can be collected in person from the test centre. To collect the results in person you must bring the identification document (KTP or passport) used when registering for the test. If you do not collect your test results in person, they will be kept at IALF and then destroyed 2 years from the test date.
• If you cannot collect your test results, you can send someone else to collect them. You must send a photocopy of your document of identification and a letter of authorisation giving permission for someone to collect your results. The person collecting will need to present their own document of identification.
• If you would like your Test Result Form to be sent by courier, please reply initial email from the IELTS Admin team with contact details, sending Test Result Forms will be processed within 1-2 days after a request has been submitted. Delivery will take 2-4 days depending on location. Test results sent to you by registered mail (free) or by courier (fee incurred).
• Results can also be sent to up to 10 other Receiving Organizations which include academic institutions, government agencies, professional bodies and employers. Please give details of the Receiving Organizations on the IELTS Application Form. Results may be sent either electronically or by post. There is a fee for results sent internationally or by courier. Results will not be sent to education or migration agents.
• If you feel that your test results are incorrect*, you can apply for an Enquiry on Results (EOR) within six weeks of your test date.  You will be charged a fee of Rp.1.800.000 for your enquiry, which will be refunded in full if your band score changes.

*Note that IELTS markers follow strict assessment guidelines and are regularly monitored.  The testing process has the highest quality control procedures.

CANCELLATION, REFUND & TRANSFER POLICY

CANCELLATION, REFUND & TRANSFER POLICY

1. Test takers registration is accepted when the online Application Form and payment is completed.
2. Test takers who choose to cancel their registration before a certain period of time prior to the test date will be eligible for a test date transfer or a refund. An administration fee will be applied. Cancellation or transfer requests must be made at least:
   • Paper-Based IELTS: 5 weeks before the test date
   • Computer-Delivered IELTS: 7 days before the test date
3. The administration fee for an approval refund request is Rp 600,000. There is no administration fee for an approved transfer or reschedule request.
4. Eligible test takers are only able to transfer their test to a date within 3 (three) months from their original test date based on availability.
5. Test takers who wish to cancel their registration within the mentioned period of time are not eligible for a refund.
6. Test takers who wish to transfer test dates within the mentioned period of time will be treated as a cancellation and will not be eligible for a refund. In this case, test takers will have to re-register and make payment for a new test date.
7. Exemptions: Candidates who wish to cancel or transfer test dates within the mentioned period of time will only receive a full refund (no cancellation fee) in the cases of:
   • Cancellation from IALF
   • Public Activity Restrictions (PPKM) Level 4 extensions,
   • A traumatic experience
   • Unavoidable legal or military obligation
   • Serious medical conditions which prevent you from attending or performing normally on test day (hospital admission, serious injury, tested positive or undergoing Covid-19 treatment)
   • Bereavement or other forms of significant hardship/trauma
   • Civil unrest, extreme weather
