Soetopo Siswo Setijono was born in Ponorogo, East Java in 1958. He has been a valued teacher at IALF Jakarta since 1988. Back then he spent several years teaching Self-Directed Learning (SDL) and then in 1989 he was assigned to teaching Bahasa Indonesia. Since those days, Soetopo has continued to teach Bahasa Indonesia at IALF Jakarta, mainly to expatriates from the Jakarta area. These students are spread right across all levels of proficiency from Beginners to Advanced. They are always a challenge that Soetopo thrives on.
One of Setopo’s fondest and most recent memories is a gift he was given last year by the participants of a course. It was a beautiful orchid and it is now in his home and thriving. Although the gift was a lovely sign of the students’ appreciation, Soetopo considers the progress that his students make in his classes and the hard work they put in as thanks enough.
