Young Learners Commemorating World Earth Day at
Commemorating #EarthDay2015, SD 5 students at #IALFBali had a fun afternoon with their teachers in a Young Learners Recycling Project. Students collaborated to create beautiful art work from recycled paper. It was a great day and also a great way to show our love of the earth by working hand in hand to produce art from recycled material. Young Learner Projects is an end of term activity which is carried out totally in English.
IALF has enjoyed strong links with schools within the Diocese of Lismore, in north-eastern New South Wales, for 5 years. Teachers and students welcome young IALF instructors each year to assist with the teaching of Indonesian language and culture at their schools. Assistance is delivered in the classroom situation, through teacher workshops, and by working directly with the students. IALF teachers have worked in Lismore since 2011 - Agus in 2011: Made and Anik in 2012, Cahyani and Pam last year, and for 2014 it will be Pam and Asri.
In addition teachers from the Diocese of Lismore join the 2-week intensive Indonesian language course every January at IALF Bali to further enhance their Bahasa Indonesia.
New Options for IELTS Preparation at IALF Jakarta
This year IALF Jakarta merged the IELTS Prep 1 and 2 classes into one combined IELTS Prep program. This has been designed to develop stronger foundations for students by providing challenging test-taking strategies and engaging assignments.
IALF Jakarta’s 2-week intensive courses and 5-week semi-intensive course are now run over four days, from Tuesday to Friday each week. This allows for slightly longer class sessions which are better suited to IELTS practice exercises and also provides for a three-day break giving students time to consolidate what they have learned during the previous week.
In response to overwhelming demand, IALF Jakarta is now running IELTS Prep on Saturdays. The new 8-week course runs from 08.45 - 16.00, (with an hour's break for lunch), every Saturday for five weeks. The class is intensive and focused and gives students an opportunity to concentrate on their language studies without the stress of coping with the demands of work or school on that day, and of course allows them to avoid Jakarta's horrendous weekday traffic.
So far this year more than 1,100 students have registered for IELTS Preparation courses at IALF Jakarta. This number is expected to increase over the coming months as awareness grows about the new programs and as people find out how easy it now is to book a place for an IELTS test at any one of the IALF centres using the online registration and payment service.
Thanks Kang Guru Indonesia and IALF
A surprise visitor popped into IALF today. Her name is Rani and she is originally from Surabaya. Rani started listening to Kang Guru Indonesia on RRI Surabaya way back in 1997. Rani enjoyed KGI for many, many years and says that the KGI magazines and radio broadcasts really helped her with her English. Then in 2007 she read about the Australia Awards scholarships in the KGI magazine and decided to apply. She has since completed her studies in Australia with Australian Awards (2010) and is now a full time lecturer at Udayana University in Bali. Listen for her interview on KGI radio soon and check the KGI Facebook Fans Page for more information about this long time friend of KGI and IALF.
Here is that article Rani saw in the June 2007 KGI magazine.
This information from KGI certainly helped Rani to make her decision to apply for her scholarship to Australia.

Asri talks about his university life in Brisbane
Asri Toldo is from East Kalimantan. He is a current Australia Awards Scholarship holder and is living and studying in Brisbane, Australia. He is studying for his Masters in Environment Advanced with Honours ( Water Resources) at Griffith University. He is having a wonderful time following his dreams and studying in Oz but he is also learning all about Australian life and culture.
As with ALL Australia Awards Scholarship holders, Asri is also an alumni of IALF.
My Campus Life in Brisbane
Live on campus or off campus is same when semester begins. No matter what level you are in: under graduate or post graduate, you are bachelor, master degree students or Phd candidates, your life will be same, ruined in the middle of joy and sorrow filled with thousand words and hundreds articles that take your time day by day until you forget your pains. In some occasions, you may not be able to differentiate the time anymore. It seems to be the same except the time for praying and going to toilet. sometimes time for eating is not included on the schedule. so you can imagine how about time for bathing. It is totally out from the list as the winter is coming soon.
When semester is almost end, I noticed something different especially when due date becomes a hot issue in everyday conversation. At this moment, suddenly life at uni becomes more enjoyable. Everybody seems busy with their own business. Learning center suddenly becomes the most comfortable place to stay in the world. In fact, it is free, safe, warm and full facilities. In some moments, if you are lucky, you will be entertained by people who cheer up themselves with music, jokes and books. So, don't be so surprised when you are walking down to the street and meet someone smiling, singing and talking alone happily. It is a normal life on campus. Or, in the late night, when you hear a loud music shaking the entire world coming from a place next to your window in almost every Tuesday night and a night in the end of the week, then you might think it is the end of world. You might say to yourself wow.. Is this a heaven? Then you have to avoid all the distractions and keep thinking straightly to complete yourself papers. This is the life at uni, and it only happens when you are here sitting in the middle of thousand books on the selves thinking about your future. This is the life that you might experience differently than others and only occurs once in a lifetime before you finally accomplish the journey.
When semester ends, life suddenly changes. All the stories during semester are kept tightly in mind. A new hope is waiting in other part of world to explore.
Like an eagle, flying highly to the sky, then dropping in a rock in a top of the mountain, looking at the beauty of its creation on the beach and enjoying a rest of the nights with a glass of tea and waking up in the next day with a happy face. This life is more exciting than playing a roller coaster, more dramatic than cast away and even more romantic than Indian movies. This life is a miracle that is only felt when you experience it. That is the life that I will miss someday when I have finished my study and returned to my real world somewhere in the middle of the forest in Borneo. The life where my son will follow by his own ways to taste the experience.

IALF Alumni in Australia
Do you know that every Indonesian student who has been awarded an Australia Awards Scholarship during the past 20 years has studied with IALF? This is true! These scholarship students spend from between 6 weeks to 12 months with IALF studying academic English and preparing themselves for IELTS before heading to Australia.
