| Issue 21: January 2008 |
The Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Bill Farmer, attended the closing ceremony at IALF Jakarta for 150 AusAID-funded scholarship fellows who completed their pre-departure language training prior to beginning postgraduate study in Australia in early 2008. The ceremony included recipients of awards under both the Australian Development Scholarship (ADS) scheme as well as the Australian Partnership Scholarship (APS) scheme. In 2007 over 600 students began postgraduate programs in Australia under these award schemes in the broad areas of Economic Management, Democratic Institutions and Practice, Basic Social Services and Security and Stability. Within these areas fellows select a field of study relevant to their current and future work in Indonesia. |

The Ambassador also attended the end-of-course barbeque
in Bali for ADS and APS students studying at IALF Bali. Students from
each pre-departure group entertained the audience by performing a range
of musical and comedy sketches during the evening. The Ambassador and
Mrs. Farmer encouraged the Australians present at the evening to join
in by singing ‘Waltzing Matilda’. The end of course barbeque
has been an annual tradition for ten years and this year was the third
and final year that APS awardees attended, prior to the last commencement
in Australia of APS awardees in January 2008. |
