First IALF C-CELT Awarded to School Teachers in Bali

Teachers from the Harapan School Foundation in Denpasar are the first group to have successfully completed the IALF Certificate in Communicative English Language Teaching (C-CELT). Since January 2006 they have taken five of the ten modules available in order to qualify for the C-CELT, namely: Principles of Communicative Language Teaching, Teaching Large/Mixed Ability Classes, Teaching the Productive Skills, Teaching the Receptive Skills and Teaching Grammar, Vocabulary & Pronunciation.

The participants attended input sessions each morning at IALF Bali and took part in a range of guided observation tasks and observed teaching practice both at the IALF and Harapan School campus. Feedback from the participants was very positive and they now feel better equipped to plan motivating lessons, select appropriate resources, challenge students, respond to large, mixed ability classes and implement communicative learning activities.

The C-CELT has been designed to meet the need for training in communicative English language teaching methodology in the Indonesian context. Modules provide participants with a combination of classroom input, the opportunity to observe experienced teachers, as well as the opportunity to plan and deliver short English language lessons to other participants (peer-teaching) and to a group of ‘real’ students.

In addition to the modules outlined above, the C-CELT also offers modules in Lesson Planning & Classroom Management, Teaching Grammar & Vocabulary, Teaching Pronunciation & Intonation, Materials Selection, Adaptation & Design, Assessment & Evaluation in the Classroom and Language Knowledge & Awareness.

Additional modules in specialised areas are available on request:

IALF Bali will be running a series of C-CELT modules for the public throughout 2007. For further information, visit the Teacher Training Services link on the IALF website: www.ialf.edu or email c-celt@ialf.edu
