An International Qualification in Teaching English

The current Certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) course being conducted by IALF Bali has brought together two Australians, an Indonesian, an American, a Briton and a Norwegian. The course is accredited by Trinity College London and recognized internationally. Some participants are looking to upgrade their skills and expertise in teaching English, for others it is an initial training course in teaching. The participants range in age from early 20s to mid 50s, so for some it is training at the beginning of their working life and for others it is an additional qualification to branch out from previous work in fields as diverse as writer/editor, garment business manager, marketing Caroline Bentley, centre, conducting a discussion with Certificate in TESOL participants.secretary, Latin/French teacher, costume designer and sculptor.

The diversity of professional and cultural backgrounds within the group has led to lively discussions on issues such as languages and how they are learnt, cultural diversity and its impact on language teaching and learning, different learning styles and the need for classroom materials to account for these. Participants have also brought their own previous experiences in learning foreign languages – including English - to the training program and incorporating these in their methodology.

The Trinity Certificate in TESOL is conducted three times a year at IALF Bali. The next course is scheduled for 6 February – 3 March 2006. For details of the program and dates for all courses in 2006 please visit the website www.tesolbali.com
