Training teachers for pathway programs

IALF Jakarta recently conducted two training sessions for English teachers from high schools in Jakarta, working with the Sydney Institute of Business and Technology (SIBT). The aim of the training sessions was to familiarize teachers with the English language course and materials prepared for SIBT by the Australian Centre for Languages (ACL). This course is provided in selected private high schools in Jakarta to students as an optional addition to their high school studies and aims to prepare the students to meet the English language requirements for study at SIBT.

To prepare for this training, the two IALF trainers – Barbara Wiechecki and Douglas Leurquin – visited ACL Sydney and SIBT for a one-week orientation program. They worked with course designers and trainers at SIBT and at ACL to ensure that they were fully familiar with the course and could train teachers in Indonesia on aspects of course delivery. The course involves a computer-based component and time was spent in the IALF computer lab familiarizing the Indonesian teachers with this aspect of the ACL program.
