People and Kang
Guru
Kang Guru Radio English (KGRE), an AusAID-funded project,
has been interviewing Indonesians from various backgrounds for segments
on the Kang Guru radio program and for articles in the magazine.
Kevin Dalton, Project Manager of KGRE, was fortunate to interview Joy
Tobing and Delon, from the first series of Indonesian Idol. The success
of Joy and Delon on Indonesian Idol, a television show based on American
Idol, has led to hectic schedules for both of them. They have recently
released CDs and are in heavy demand to perform across Indonesia.
Kevin also caught up recently with members of the Indonesian national
swimming team at the Senayan Sports Centre in Jakarta. Albert Sutanto
was a member of the Indonesian Olympic team in Athens while Bambang Guntoro
also went to Athens as
one of two Indonesian representatives at the Olympic Youth Camp. Sherly
Yunita and Delfina Chandra, along with Albert and Bambang, spent five
months in Perth earlier this year training with Australian coaches in
preparation for international swimming competitions.
And the Indonesians featured on KGRE are not all living in Indonesia.
On Kevin’s recent travels through central Australia he happened
to meet six AusAID scholarship (ADS) students who were also holidaying
in the outback. They were as surprised to see Kevin as he was to meet
them.
Interviews and stories about the Idols, swimmers and ADS students will
be broadcast on the Kang Guru radio program in early 2005 and articles
will feature in the December 2004 edition of the Kang Guru magazine.
