Scholarship places on courses at IALF Bali

As part of its contribution to community development IALF Bali offers free places on its General English program to selected government and provincial departments and NGOs. To date in 2006 almost 40 participants have taken the opportunity to study at the IALF under this program.

The government departments receiving scholarships in 2006 are district police (including tourist police) and manpower and the NGOs are East Bali Poverty Project, YKIP (which supports Bali bomb victims), Seniwati Gallery for Art by Women as well as the winner of the competition organised by the provincial government to identify the best student of Balinese traditional culture.

The participants have good attendance and respond positively to the English language ourses. IALF hopes that with improved English language skills they can better meet the requirements of their jobs.

IALF supports IKAMA Surya Scholarship program

The Surabaya branch of the Indonesian Australia Alumni Association (IKAMA) has successfully established an ongoing program of financial assistance for school students in
Surabaya whose continuation at school was in jeopardy due to financial circumstances. The initial program of scholarships targeted senior secondary students but recently the focus has been on supporting students in basic education. The scholarships, which are for three years, provide enough money to enable students to stay in school. Between 30 and 40 scholarships will be awarded this year, depending on funds available.

The scholarship program is funded entirely from donations, including those from more than 200 IKAMA Surya members. The IALF has contributed to this worthwhile program
since its inception in 2002 and Alex Gough, Manager IALF Surabaya, recently attended the launch of the 2006 program held at Ubaya University, Surabaya. For more information about IKAMA Surya and their scholarship program please visit www.ikama.or.id or contact the office at ikama_surya@yahoo.com
