Launch
of Kang Guru 2005 - 2009
 |
The new phase of Kang Guru Radio English (2005 – 2009) was launched
on Saturday 9 July, along with the grand opening of the new premises of
IALF Bali. The Deputy Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr. Peter Rowe,
officially launched Kang Guru in a ceremony at IALF Bali. Kang Guru is
funded through AusAID, which was represented by Philippa Power, Counsellor
(Development Cooperation) Australian Embassy in Jakarta. Brent Hall, Australia's
Consul to Bali was also present at the ceremony. The CEO of the IALF,
Geoffrey Crewes and colleagues Richard Howells, Alex Gough, Don Hancock
and Yayun Hadaris were present to add support from IALF Indonesia, as
was Julie Klugman from AusAID’s ACCESS project and Nina Shatifan
from AusAID’s Water and Sanitation for Low Income Communities project.
Three Bali-based Kang Guru Connection Clubs (KGCCs) - Six Sense, Fellowship
and Formula clubs assisted with the launch. The Six Sense Club worked
for many days planning and developing the KGRE display while the Fellowship
Club presented a live version of the song ‘I Am Australian’
and Formula Club presented a poem, in English, about the importance of
teachers. These items were so well received that they were recorded later
that day in the IALF recording studio for inclusion in a future Kang Guru
radio program.
