Soegma receiving her certificateTeacher Development for the Indonesian National Police

IALF Jakarta has run two intensive one-month courses for English teachers working at language centres within the training network of the Indonesian National Police (INP).

The programs aimed to improve the teachers’ overall level of English language proficiency as well as working with them on aspects of classroom methodology. In particular, the groups were interested in addressing the issue of applying communicative language teaching practices to large classes.

English language teachers from the INP.In addition to the two one-month training programs, the IALF hosted of group of INP English language teachers working in provincial centres across Indonesia. As part of their visit to the IALF they had a session in the computer lab looking at materials for computer assisted language learning. They also had a discussion with Kevin Dalton from Kang Guru Radio English (KGRE) about the KGRE teacher packs, which many were interested in using in their language classes. Kevin will include English language teachers from the INP when he conducts teacher workshops around Indonesia as part of the KGRE project.

The program for the INP at the IALF was funded by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) through the Australian Embassy, Jakarta. As part of this ongoing cooperation the IALF will assist the INP in the selection of English language teaching materials for use at the INP Language Centre and also work with them on the maintenance of their language laboratories
