Prior to course commencement you will sit a placement test consisting of a brief interview and written test. On the basis of your result you will be placed in the study group most appropriate to your level. The maximum number of students in a group is 12.

There are six levels currently available:
Each level (40 hours of tuition) follows a theme-based syllabus with tasks designed to encourage you to use your newly-acquired language in real life communication. Grammar and vocabulary are taught as a means of facilitating communication rather than ends in themselves.

The cultural studies program comprises a series of lectures and workshops led by experts in the respective fields. Topics include: Tourism in Bali, Dance and Music, Indonesian Business Ethics, Cultural Dos and Don'ts. There is also a full day trip at the weekend with an itinerary designed in liaison with the students. What better way to study Indonesian! |

Classes are usually conducted from Monday to Friday in the mornings, leaving the afternoons and weekends free for the cultural program and socialising with your host family. Forthcoming Course Dates:

We also offer customized Group Study Tour programs for groups with specific interests who want to learn Indonesian. You can apply for these programs at any time of the year. Assessment is on a continual basis with grades being assigned for performance in language tasks, homework and class participation. |

If you are particularly interested in Indonesian culture, engaging yourself in the everyday social life of the Indonesians within the heart of a host family is a memorable experience. The family provide accommodation, breakfast and evening meal for the duration of your stay.

IALF Bali currently employs twelve native speaker teachers of Indonesian all holding a university degree and teaching qualification. Although they mainly teach using the direct method, all of them are fluent speakers of English and have undergone the process of foreign language learning. This enables them to anticipate problems encountered by students in their Indonesian course.
