Abstract
The paper will demonstrate some multimedia resources produced by the NSW Department of Education & Training and will discuss issues confronting developers of the resources and how they can be used to enhance the teaching and learning of Indonesian in the classroom.
The resources to be discussed are AlbumIndonesia (a CD-ROM for secondary learners of Indonesian) and Hebat! (a CD-ROM for primary learners of Indonesian). The paper will also discuss on-line resources such as the HSC Indonesian On-Line node.
Album Indonesia is a new interactive multimedia CD-ROM resource designed for learning Indonesian. Album Indonesia includes video clips, role plays, learning games, photographs with sound and quizzes, a talking dictionary, vocabulary learning tools, word games and grammar support. Designed to complement the content of secondary syllabuses, the CD-ROM will also be a useful tool for beginner tertiary students of Indonesian. This session will introduce participants to the CD-ROM and explore some of its features. Album Indonesia was initiated and funded by the Curriculum Support Directorate of the NSW Department of Education & Training and jointly developed with Planet Learning.
Hebat! is a CD-ROM designed for primary school learners of Indonesian that was developed as a project of the National Asian Languages and Studies in Australian Schools strategy by the Curriculum Corporation with input from the New South wales department of education and Training. It combines audio, text, still and animated graphics and in-country video footage in interactive self-paced learning activities.
HSC Indonesian Online is a resource for Year 12 students preparing for the HSC examination. It provides online resources for all prescribed topics, sample tasks and links to relevant websites.
